A paperboy has been attacked whilst out on his afternoon paper round in Oakengates.

Paperboy attacked in Oakengates

The incident occurred on Cockshutt Road early yesterday evening, just before 5.45pm. The 14-year-old was walking along Station Hill and passed a group of youths containing both males and females.

The paperboy quickened his pace when the group began to follow him but then a male member of the group attacked him from behind, pushing him to the floor.

The victim was kicked and punched a number of times while he was on the floor and he believes two other members of the group joined in with the assault.

A police spokesman said:

"Having been attacked the victim did manage to get back to his feet and make his way to a nearby address and then call the police.

"However, as he escaped from his attackers he realised one of them had picked up his Blackberry Curve mobile phone and kept hold of it.

"Two witnesses gave chase to the group of youths and managed to retrieve the mobile phone, although the SD memory card had been taken out of it.

"The group of youths are all described as being aged between 14 and 16 and one of the youths that attacked the victim was wearing a black Adidas top.

"Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact officers in Telford on 101 or 0300 333 3000, quoting incident number 557S 081112.

"Alternatively, please remember Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you'd rather leave information without getting directly involved yourself."
