Telford & Wrekin Council is extending its First Point in to two borough libraries, making it easier for residents to access Council services. The service will be available in Madeley and Newport Libraries from today.

First Point to be available in Madeley and Newport libraries

These additional First Points are an extension to the existing First Point located at Wellington Library and Civic Offices – which have proven successful in bringing many organisations together in one location to provide a more joined up customer service.

The idea behind opening the additional branches in the chosen location is that it will mean there is a drop in centre for the public in each corner of Telford, making the council’s services more accessible.

They have been positioned within the library service so the council can extend its services within the community – an example of co-operative working across council teams.

Some of the services offered include:
· Apply for a Concessionary Travel Pass or a Blue Badge parking permit
· Pay Council tax or any other council invoice by cheque or card.
· Request a service e.g replacement bins and recycling boxes.
· Report faulty street lights, potholes, graffiti and fly tipping.
· Telephone Council Services for free.
· Get help completing council forms.
· Use a computer to access other council services.

Madeley will also be offering a Citizens Advice Bureau service on Mondays from 10am–1pm starting Monday 19th November. At Newport, residents can make a Citizens Advice Bureau appointment for Wellington or Telford to complement an existing service at the Guildhall in Newport .

Some First Point services can also be carried out online via our website / mobile phone app.

The libraries also have computers available for free use by members of the public who may want to access services or search for jobs and plasma screens are now bringing the latest information to residents.

Councillor Richard Overton, cabinet member for Customer Services, said: “As a Co-operative Council, we are determined to ensure that our services and information about them are easily accessible for residents and opening First Point at Madeley and Newport libraries are all part of that.

“I would encourage residents in both communities to take full advantage of the new First Points – they have a wealth of information and knowledge that can help people with a whole range of issues and also include information from partner organisations.”
