Newly qualified teachers celebrate with Mickey Bushell in Telford
More than 20 Newly Qualified Teachers celebrated their success last week at a special event where they were presented with certificates by local hero Mickey Bushell, London 2012 Paralympics Gold Medallist.

The Newly Qualified Teachers have successfully completed their statutory one year induction in schools across the borough. It’s now onwards and upwards as they progress into full-time positions as first year teachers, many within Telford & Wrekin schools.
Almost 100 people attended the Celebration Event which took place at Woodlands Primary School, Madeley; including head teachers, induction tutors, council officers and proud family members and friends.
Inspiring the audience, Mickey Bushell brought along his gold medal from London 2012. Mickey is an Ambassador for the national charity, ‘Get Kids Going’, which gives disabled children and young people an opportunity to participate in sport and provides long term support to talented disabled athletes to help them to achieve their sporting dreams.
Laura Johnston, Telford & Wrekin Council’s Corporate Director for Children and Family Services congratulated the NQTs - wishing them the best of luck as they embark on challenging and rewarding careers in teaching and emphasised the importance of the profession in shaping the future.
Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “Telford & Wrekin Council is extremely proud of the NQT’s who have worked very hard to qualify. We look forward to witnessing and sharing their continued success as they further develop their careers – in Telford and beyond. The sky truly is the limit for these determined and successful individuals. I wish them the very best of luck for the future.”
