Burglars have targeted a 97-year-old Ludlow woman, stealing two handbags from her home.

Burglars target Ludlow pensioner’s home

They broke into the house in Castle View Terrace overnight, forcing a window and snatching the two handbags containing a purse, door key and bank and pension cards.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "It is obviously very distressing for the victim, especially as she is so elderly.

"The break in happened between 6.45pm last night and 7am today. We are anxious to hear from anyone who may have spotted suspicious activity in the Castle View Terrace area.

"Any information which might help us identify the offender will be most welcome. Contact Ludlow police station on 101."

The two handbags may have been discarded. One is described as a patchwork quilt effect type and the other as small and navy in colour.

Police in Shropshire continue to make burglary a priority under the force-wide Citadel initiative which focuses on reducing offences and arresting offenders.

Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111.
