Plans board gives seal of approval for rebuild of Lord Silkin and Grange Park Primary Schools
An outline planning application that proposes to completely rebuild The Lord Silkin School and Grange Park Primary School in Stirchley has been given the seal of approval by Telford & Wrekin Council’s Plans Board.

Now that the thumbs up has been given, a full planning application will be submitted by Shepherd Construction Limited following the development of a detailed design proposal.
Shepherd Construction Limited will now prepare detailed plans with a view for having the school ready for opening in September 2015.
The outline planning application gives permission in principle for the Lord Silkin Secondary School to be replaced with a 600 place secondary school, the site to also include a new-build 420 place Grange Park primary school, 32 place nursery, a 100 place post 16 facility and benefit from extensive refurbishment of the existing Stirchley Leisure Centre facilities.
The post 16 centre will allow for more young people leaving school in the south of the borough to further their skills and higher education.
Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said; “Telford & Wrekin Council’s £200m Building Schools for the Future Programme is gathering momentum and I am delighted that another one of our BSF schemes has been given the thumbs up from Plans Board.
“This is where the programme starts to get very exciting and ideas are added to the mix to develop a detailed design. Council officers, head teachers, staff, governors and pupils to name but a few people who will be involved, will now be able to help Shepherd Construction Limited bring their dream of a new school to life.”
As part of Telford & Wrekin Council’s vision to rebuild and remodel every secondary school in Telford & Wrekin there is the ambition to create learning communities.
Learning communities will not only incorporate schools and community facilities onto the same sites, they will also function differently – working more closely with other learning providers and schools within the same geographical location.
The development of learning communities will help to make the move from primary to secondary school much smoother. As well as this it will encourage the sharing of best practice among educational professionals that will help to raise standards even more across the borough.
The new Lakeside Learning Community will consist of The Lord Silkin School, Grange Park Primary School, Hollinswood Infant and Junior School, Randlay Primary School, Windmill Primary and Holmer Lake Primary School who are working together to carry the vision for the project forward.
