A house burglary in Bayston Hill and a suspicious incident nearby are being linked by police in Shrewsbury.

Shrewsbury police link theft and burglary incidents

Two computers and a mobile phone worth more than £1,000 were stolen when a house in Brookfield Road was broken into during the daytime yesterday.

It happened between 9am and 4.15pm when entry was gained by forcing a window. Rooms were searched and a Samsung Galaxy phone, an Acer 18-inch screen lap top and an Asus notebook were stolen. It's thought the property may have been removed in a "Sports Soccer" shopping bag.

At around 10.45am yesterday, a young man was spotted in the back garden of a home in Lythwood Road. When challenged by the occupier, he said he was looking for his ball and then quickly made off. It's thought he was intending to break into the premises.

Police believe the same person was probably involved in both incidents and have appealed for witnesses with any information which might assist the investigation. Contact Shrewsbury police station on 101.

They also think a third incident at an address in Reynaulds Close, Belvidere, Shrewsbury might also be connected.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "Shortly before 5pm yesterday an elderly lady returned home in her car. As she parked her car on the drive and was just getting out, a male opened the passenger door and stole her handbag off the seat.

"The victim was extremely upset. The aubergine or dark plum coloured handbag contained her mobile phone, purse with about £20 and various personal documents and bank cards.

"Again, we are appealing for any information which might help our inquiries into this incident."

A 15-year-old youth was arrested late last night on suspicion of burglary, attempted burglary and theft relating to the three incidents. He remains in custody at Shrewsbury police station for questioning.
