Shrewsbury Sixth Form College makes the grade in national survey
Shrewsbury Sixth Form College has gained national recognition after being named as one of the 20 best colleges in the country for the second year running.

The local college was ranked at 17 in a national league table published by The Sunday Times over the weekend, matching the position it achieved in the same survey last year.
The Sunday Times Schools Guide is a highly-respected annual grading of the top 400 state and fee-paying independent secondary schools in the country, with scoring this year based on the average number of Level 3 points per student gained in A Level and equivalent examinations over the three years from 2009 to 2011.
Martin Ward, Principal of Shrewsbury Sixth Form College, said: “It is so pleasing to be placed so highly in a list which comprises some outstanding colleges. It is down to the exceptional hard work of our students and the outstanding efforts of our teaching staff. To be ranked in the top 20 sixth form colleges in the country for two consecutive years demonstrates a tremendous consistency in achievement, one that is mirrored in our excellent annual examination results. This accolade is great news not just for students and parents here in Shrewsbury, but from right across Shropshire too, and it reinforces our reputation for academic excellence. It is also a timely boost for our ambitions to develop and grow our international market.
“We know it’s an important time for many youngsters who are weighing up their post-16 options, and we’d be delighted to showcase exactly what Shrewsbury Sixth Form College has to offer to any prospective student or parent. We’re staging a number of college tours over the coming weeks, and anyone interested in reserving a place should contact our admissions department on 01743 235491 or email admissions@ssfc.co.uk.”
The college’s ongoing excellence has been praised by Shrewsbury and Atcham MP Daniel Kawczynski, who commented: “I am delighted that Shrewsbury Sixth Form College has been recognised again by such a prestigious publication as The Sunday Times. I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Martin Ward, his staff, and of course, the college’s students, many of whom come from my constituency. This national recognition for the college is testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved.”
Karen Bradshaw, Group Manager for Learning and Skills at Shropshire Council, added: “We are pleased to see national recognition for one of the Shropshire colleges, and Shropshire Council values the contribution that the Sixth Form College makes to education in Shropshire.”
