Police in Telford are investigating following an assault on Limes Walk in Oakengates on Monday.

Teenage girl injured in unprovoked Oakengates assault

At just before 6pm, the victim - a 14-year-old girl - was walking down the footpath next to ‘The Place' theatre with a 13-year-old friend when they were approached from behind by an unknown man.

The man moved close to the two girls and without warning kicked the victim the face. He immediately ran off down the steps and across the car park to make his escape.

A police spokesman said:

"This assault appears to be completely unprovoked and the two girls have been left very shaken by it.

"As a result of the incident the victim suffered bruising to her chin and upper chest but did not require any hospital treatment.

"The man who carried out this assault is described as being of mixed race, around 18-years-old and as having a slim build. He is also described as wearing a black ‘puffa' jacket with the hood up - possibly made by Adidas - and black tracksuit bottoms.

"Officers investigating this incident are looking for possible CCTV footage of it but in the meantime they are very keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the assault, or who may know who the man involved is.

"Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact PC 1200 Sian Evans in Telford on 101 or 0300 333 3000, quoting incident number 589S 191112.

"Alternatively, please remember Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you'd rather leave information without getting directly involved yourself."
