Telford & Wrekin Council to mark White Ribbon Day
Telford & Wrekin Council is holding a stand in the town centre on Sunday to mark White Ribbon Day – a symbolic campaign which demonstrates that domestic abuse is unacceptable.

The campaign sees men including those in high profile, public positions - wearing a symbolic white ribbon to demonstrate that domestic abuse is not acceptable and should not be tolerated.
The campaign aims to promote what existing support services are available to victims, to work directly with local communities to raise awareness of domestic abuse, reduce the number of incidents and therefore save lives.
Telford will aim to become a White Ribbon Town in 2013, which will enable Telford & Wrekin Council to build on its commitment to challenge and tackle domestic abuse and improve prospects for families.
Sunday is White Ribbon Day and Telford & Wrekin Council will mark it with a stand outside WH Smith and H Samuels shops in the town centre. There will also be a prize draw for a free family ticket for the pantomime and free face painting.
Staff will be giving away white ribbons and wrist bands and generally raising awareness of domestic abuse. White ribbons are also available from reception at Darby House and First Point in Civic Offices.
White ribbons will also be given out at the Telford Tigers ice hockey game on Sunday night.
Council leader Kuldip Sahota said: “Domestic abuse affects thousands of people all over the country. We are determined to raise awareness of it as an issue and the profile will be helped by Telford becoming a White Ribbon Town.
“I would urge men to wear white ribbons – particularly those in positions of prominence and influence.”
