A talented Telford figure skater has been accepted into the British Figure Skating Championships 2012, to be held at Sheffield between 27 November - 2 December.

Telford Figure Skater makes the Senior British Championships

Darcy-Adele, aged 19, is the first Telford Figure Skater in approximately 20 years to make the Senior British Championships and will take part in the Senior Ladies category.

Darcy-Adele has split her time between two rinks, one being Telford’s very own.

Telford Ice Rink has recently undergone a £4m refurbishment seeing major internal and external improvements as part of the broader £250m redevelopment of the Southwater area of the town centre.

The refurbishment is expected to lead to more success stories like that of Darcy-Adele and increase in visitor numbers.

Skating since the age of five, Telford was Darcy-Adele’s first rink where she has been coached by Jacquie Lloyd (no relation).

Jacquie has guided Darcy-Adele’s progress over the years; including medals in Open Competition, from beginner to Level 10, participation representing England in the NISA Cup Home Countries International, International Competitions and now The British Figure Championships.

This past year has been very eventful for Darcy-Adele, she has skated Internationally at IJS International Club Competitions in Italy, Latvia and Scotland.

Asked how she got to such a level, Darcy-Adele, said: "a lot of early mornings, hard work and good coaching"

"I am really happy to have got there, I just want to skate my best", added Darcy-Adele.

Councillor Arnold England, cabinet member for Leisure and Wellbeing, said: “I would like to congratulate Darcy-Adele, her family and team of coaches for their huge achievements. I am extremely pleased that the Telford Ice Rink has featured so heavily in Darcy-Adele’s success.

“Telford Ice Rink opened in 1985 and is one of only 56 in the UK and is a facility of regional importance. I hope that following the recent refurbishment, that more young people will be encouraged to take to the ice to discover their talents.”
