Police in Oswestry are investigating four weekend burglaries at homes in the town - three of them in the same street.

Burglars target Oswestry homes

They have issued an appeal for witnesses after burglars broke into three addresses in Hampton Fields.

Two of the burglaries happened between 4pm on Friday and 11am yesterday resulting in about £700 damage. Rooms were searched but it is not yet known whether anything was stolen.

The third breakin in Hampton Fields happened between 4pm Friday and 11.30am on Saturday when a window was forced causing about £200 damage. Again, it is not known if anything was stolen.

Thieves also gained entry to a house in Shelf Bank Close between 12pm and 8pm on Saturday. Nothing appears to have been stolen.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "We are concerned about this spate of burglaries in Oswestry and would welcome any information which might assist our investigations.

"Burglary remains a top priority for the police in Shropshire where we are working on Citadel, a force-wide initiative focussing on reducing offences and arresting offenders.

"To have three incidents in one street is extremely unusual and it is highly likely the offenders will have been spotted at some point. We are appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Hampton Fields area over the weekend, to contact Oswestry police station on 101," the spokesperson added.

Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111.
