Telford & Wrekin Councillors back White Ribbon Day
Representatives of Telford & Wrekin Council’s political groups have signed a pledge supporting a symbolic campaign which demonstrates that domestic abuse is unacceptable.

This follows a decision by the council’s cabinet for Telford to aim to become a White Ribbon Town.
The campaign sees men including those in high profile, public positions - wearing a symbolic white ribbon to demonstrate that domestic abuse is not acceptable and should not be tolerated.
It aims to promote what existing support services are available to victims, to work directly with local communities to raise awareness of domestic abuse, reduce the number of incidents and therefore save lives.
Becoming a White Ribbon Town will enable Telford & Wrekin Council to build on its commitment to challenge and tackle domestic abuse and improve prospects for families.
Telford & Wrekin Council also marked White Ribbon Day on Sunday with a town centre stand to raise awareness of the campaign by giving out ribbons and wristbands.
Council leader Kuldip Sahota said: “Domestic abuse affects thousands of people all over the country. We are determined to raise awareness of it as an issue and the profile will be helped by Telford becoming a White Ribbon Town.
“I would urge men to wear white ribbons – particularly those in positions of prominence and influence.”
