Police officers are investigating after a man was assaulted on Station Approach in Wellington on Saturday.

Man suffers cuts and bruises during assault in Wellington

At just after 5.50pm, as the 46-year-old man made his way from the centre of Wellington onto Station Approach, he noticed a group of men walking on the opposite side of the road.

As the victim crossed the road he then noticed that three men from the group had started to follow him.

After a short while one of the men shouted at the victim who immediately turned round to ask what he'd said. Without warning one of the men hit the victim full in the face, causing the victim to stagger backwards.

The man invited the victim to come back at him but the victim refused and made off towards the High Street. The three men who had been following him then headed towards the railway station.

A police spokesman said:

"As a result of this incident the victim suffered bruising and cuts to the bridge of his nose and may well have to re-attend the hospital to check that his nose isn't broken.

"Although shaken by this assault the victim has described the man that hit him as being Asian, around 19-years-old, roughly 5ft 8inches tall and as having a square jaw. He is also described as having short, black, brushed forward hair and as wearing a grey hooded top and grey tracksuit bottoms

"Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police in Telford on 101 or 0300 333 3000, quoting reference number 225N 201112.

"Alternatively, please remember Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you'd rather leave information without getting directly involved yourself."
