Two convicted of manslaughter after Telford man died following assault

Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) Neil Jamieson has given his reaction after seeing Jason Noto and Robert Jones - who are both aged 24 - found guilty of the manslaughter of Ismaaeel Rehman.

Two convicted of manslaughter after Telford man died following assault

Mr Rehman died following a seizure on New Years Day 2011 and a jury yesterday decided this was linked to a serious assault he suffered in the Heath Hill area of Dawley back in July 2009.

Having been convicted yesterday afternoon, Noto and Jones were this morning both sentenced to seven and a half years in prison.

Speaking about the result today, DCI Jamieson said:

"I am satisfied with these convictions in what was an unusual case and am pleased that both men will now serve significant custodial sentences.

"The assault in July 2009 was a brutal one and it is pleasing the jury have found that this was linked to Mr Rehman's death 18 months later.

"This was a complicated, lengthy investigation and I'd like to pay tribute to Mr Rehman's family for the dignity and patience they have shown through the lengthy criminal justice process.

"They have behaved impeccably throughout and been very supportive of our inquiry. I hope these convictions provide them with some form of closure relating to this tragic event and now allow them to move forward with their lives.

"I would also like to thank all the officers and staff who helped achieve this result at court - as I said the investigation was a complicated one with many unusual features.

"In addition, I'd like to thank the Crown Prosecution Service for all their support and also thank all those people that came forward with information that aided our investigation and helped us convict these two men."
