Norovirus cases increase at Princess Royal Hospital
People are being asked not to visit wards at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford where a high number of cases of Norovirus have been confirmed.
As has been reported nationally there has been an increase in the number of cases of Norovirus or ‘winter vomiting’ infections in the community, which means more people are bringing these highly infectious bugs into hospital.
As a result of an increase in cases at the Princess Royal Hospital people are being asked not to visit wards 4, 10, 15 and 16.
Anyone who would like to visit one of the affected areas is asked to contact the ward in advance by calling 01952 641222.
Dr Patricia O’Neill, the Trust’s Director of Infection Prevention and Control, said: “We are asking people not to visit wards 4, 10, 15 and 16 where we have seen high activity. If there are reasons why you need to visit then please call the ward first to discuss this.
“We are still seeing people visiting who are symptomatic or just recovering from diarrhoea and or vomiting and that has led to led to new cases. People have to be responsible. If you have had symptoms within the last 48 hours then please do not visit.
“If we continue to see a rise in cases then we will need to consider closing the hospital to visitors.”
