RAF Shawbury assist local animal rescue centre
Staff from RAF Shawbury have jumped to assist a local Animal Rescue Centre after a whip round on the Station.

Grinshill Animal Rescue Centre rehabilitates and re-home animals to suitable caring homes. As part of their work they have all animals checked and micro-chipped by a Vet and give the animals a caring home whilst they are housed at the centre, nestled below Grinshill.
Staff at the airbase read of the current plight of the centre in an article in the Shropshire Star and decided to collect some cash to assist in the running of the centre. The centre sits close to the hearts of the unit as courses from both the Central Air Traffic Control School and Defence Helicopter Flying School often send students to the centre to assist with dog-walking or any odd jobs available as part of their Community projects.
Wing Commander ‘Chesh’ Cowieson visited the centre to present a cheque for £200 to Jenny Martinez, who runs the centre. He was accompanied by the Station Community Relations Officer, Squadron Leader Neil Hope, who said;’ the Station has worked closely with the centre for many years now and is very proud to be able to assist Jenny in her excellent work. In the summer a course of students assisted in the running of the annual dog show in Shawbury and we will hopefully continue to have close ties. We would urge local people to help Jenny in keeping this superb facility running.’
Wing Commander Cowieson added;’ this is another example of RAF Shawbury assisting in the local area. We have recently also assisted the RSPCA in sponsoring a page in their calendar which allows us to remind horse riders of the importance of wearing reflective clothing to ensure that helicopter crews can see and avoid them. We look forward to continuing ours efforts locally during 2013.’
