Shrewsbury New Year revellers urged not to cause problems
Shrewsbury Pub Watch and the police are urging New Year revellers not to cause problems at pubs and clubs in Shrewsbury.
They have warned that troublemakers are likely to end up being banned from licensed venues for the whole of 2013 and even longer in more serious instances.
Town centre police officer PC David Walton said: "Although in recent years the trend at New Year has been house parties, the evening still remains one of the busiest in the police calendar.
"This year will once more see extra officers patrolling Shrewsbury with many on foot patrol in the town centre. They will all be in direct contact with members of Pub Watch via a new digital radio link and will therefore be in a position to deal robustly with incidents of crime and disorder.
"Hopefully, we will be able to keep a watchful eye from a distance and ensure everyone enjoys the evening peacefully."
Pub Watch scheme manager, Richard Goodchild, said: "Unfortunately, it's often the case when the banning committee meets in early January, that it has to administer bans which could easily have been avoided had the individuals concerned shown a little respect to members of the public, door supervisors or police officers."
He added: "Hopefully, this year the list of bans I need to send out will be a short one and follow the pattern that has emerged this year with far fewer people being banned from our members' premises."
