Police are treating the incident which happened on Friday as a robbery and are appealing for information to help identify the offenders.

Detective Constable Will Quan, the investigating officer, said the 40-year-old victim was driving a silver Vauxhall Astra at around 6.30pm when a car flashed him from behind.

He pulled over near the junction of Hazelwells Road and Titterstone Road and was pulled to the ground as he got out of his vehicle.

DC Quan said: "He put up a degree of resistance and the three men got back into their vehicle and left, taking the victim's keys with them. They were in a green or grey people carrier."

He said the man and two young children in his car, were not injured.

"This is a somewhat bizarre incident and I am anxious to hear from anyone who saw any part or who can help in identifying the culprits.

"Fortunately, no-one was injured but it was a frightening experience especially with children present I would welcome any information which might assist the investigation either by calling 100 or by contacting the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111."

Two of the men were wearing hooded jackets. All three were white and thought to be in their late teens or early twenties. One was described as being about 5ft 5ins tall, of skinny build with some facial hair and the other about 6ft tall, of chubby build and clean shaven.
