Morda residents invited to have say on new housing development
Residents in Morda are invited to give their views on a new development aimed at helping local people remain in the area they love.

With housing prices in the small community hitting around £166,000 and the average full time wage below the national average at around £400 before tax per week , there is a growing demand for Affordable Housing from residents wanting to remain in the village they have either grown up or work in.
To meet this demand, Severnside Housing is proposing a new 21 home development, which will be prioritised initially for people who have a local connection to the Parish of Oswestry Rural. The homes proposed are a mix of two and three bed houses with a small number of two bed bungalows. All the properties would be built to a high level of sustainability.
The majority of the proposed homes will be for affordable rent with six being available on a shared ownership basis, enabling some residents to buy an initial small stake in their property and build this up as their income grows.
A consultation event is taking place on Tuesday January 22, at Morda Village Hall, Weston Road, Morda. Local residents are invited to drop-in anytime between 2pm and 7:30pm to view the submitted plans and ask any questions either about the development or their eligibility linked to a connection to the local area.
Helen Pugh, Business Development Manager at Severnside Housing, said: “The aim of the event is to enable residents to ask questions, and also to express their interest in the proposed homes.
“Whenever such a development is planned in a rural community, our intention is to ensure the new homes best match the needs of local people, and that it fits in sympathetically with the existing environment.
“We know from talking to residents that there is a strong desire to enable young people who have grown up in the parish to remain there, the proposed allocations policy which initially gives preference to residents with a strong connection to the local area is designed to reflect this need.
“Please do come along and view the plans and let us know what you think.”
