Police in Shrewsbury are appealing for witnesses after a man threatened a staff member during a robbery at a newsagents on Saturday night.

Staff member threatened during robbery in Shrewsbury

The female employee was stacking shelves when the unknown man entered the store on Crowmere Road at around 7.50pm.

He approached the female and pulled out a bladed instrument – possibly a small knife – and waved it at her. He then demanded money from the till.

The woman refused to hand over any money and the man then went behind the counter and opened the till himself. He took money out of the till – mainly £5 and £10 notes – and then ran out of the shop and off down Crowmere Road.

Police say at this stage it is not clear how much money was taken.

Officers investigating this robbery are keen to hear from anyone who may have information about it, especially anyone who may have seen the offender running out of the shop and away down Crowmere Road.

The man who carried out this robbery is described as being white, aged between 25 and 35, as being around 5ft 10 or 5ft 11inches tall and as having a large, broad build.

He is also described as wearing a dark blue hooded top, dark coloured tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call officers in CID in Shrewsbury on 101 or 0300 333 3000.
