Police investigating a stabbing incident in Telford have arrested a 25-year-old woman on suspicion of attempted murder.

Three other people - two men and a woman - have also been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

The arrests were made yesterday as officers investigated the stabbing of a 24-year-old man in Trench Road, Trench at around 11.30pm on Wednesday night.

He suffered a serious stomach wound and was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Stoke where he underwent a four-hour operation. His condition was today described as stable.

Detective Inspector Billy Scott, the senior investigating officer, said: "We have arrested four people in connection with the incident, including a 25-year-old woman on suspicion of attempted murder.

"Three others, a 21-year-old woman and two men aged 20 and 22, have also been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. They are all currently in custody at Malinsgate police station for questioning."

DI Scott today renewed the police appeal for witnesses to come forward.

"Before the stabbing, a fight had taken place in the street. A number of people who were not involved in this disorder attempted to break it up and I am anxious they come forward.

"I appeal to them, and indeed anyone else who was present who witnessed any part of the incident, to contact Malinsgate police station by calling 101. People can also can the anonymous Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111."

The victim and a friend had left the Duke of York pub to go to the Dun Cow when they became involved in the altercation near the second pub.

DI Scott added: "Several witnesses have already come forward but it is vitally important that anyone else who was present contacts us without delay."
