Two jailed for attempted burglary near Oswestry
Detectives have welcomed custodial sentences totalling almost eight years handed down to two prolific burglars caught in a joint policing operation between Shropshire and Telford.
Jonathan Lowe, 32, from Telford and David Nyari, 25, from Willenhall in the West Midlands, were arrested by officers after being spotted in the grounds of a house in Osbaston, near Oswestry on 23rd July 2012.
They initially denied the charges but later pleaded guilty to attempted burglary at Shrewsbury Crown Court on yesterday.
Lowe was sentenced to four years and six months in custody and banned from driving for five years. Nyari was sentenced to 38 months in custody.
Both men have previous convictions for burglary.
Detective Sergeant Richard Davies, from Telford's Burglary Unit, said the David Nyariconvictions should serve as a warning to those looking to commit burglary that the police would catch them.
"We responded proactively following intelligence that two prolific burglars who had recently been released from prison were likely to re-offend," he said.
"A joint operation between Shropshire and Telford's burglary units caught them in the act and they have received substantial sentences, which clearly demonstrate the court's support of both the victims of crime and the police.
"We will continue to target known burglars and would ask the public to be vigilant to any suspicious activity, including people or vehicles acting suspiciously close their homes. Report anything you find suspicious to police on 101."
Citadel is an ongoing initiative by West Mercia Police to tackle burglary force-wide. Levels in Shropshire and Telford have fallen significantly since the operation was launched last autumn.
