Essential lifesaving skills training begins in Shropshire
A new drive has begun to teach people in Shropshire essential lifesaving skills.
With the support of West Midlands Ambulance Service, ‘Heartstart Shropshire CFR’ aims to train as many people in the county as possible in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Its inaugural course run by West Midlands Ambulance Service’s Community Response Manager Cliff Medlicott was held on Tuesday 15th January at Cheswardine Primary School attended over two sessions by a total of 28 adults and nine Year Six pupils.
The first course was arranged with the help of Cheswardine Primary School class teacher Ruth Argyle who said: “We were contacted by West Midlands Ambulance Service. I was asked by our Headteacher if I wanted to pursue it and roll it out. We decided not to just do it for Year Six pupils, but for the local community and staff as well as this is an important skill to learn.”
The course was publicised locally via a leaflet-drop, community newsletter and parish magazine. Ruth added: “I am pleased with the turnout. I was really pleased when people with no connection to the school signed up.”
‘Heartstart Shropshire CFR’ is currently training volunteers to become instructors who, in turn, will train members of the public, focussing mainly on the county’s schools.
