A teenager has suffered an injury after being punched by a driver in Wellington.

Teenager assaulted by driver in Wellington

The incident occurred on King Street outside New College at around 12.30pm yesterday.

The victim, a 16-year-old male, was crossing the road with a female friend when a silver car - believed to be a Ford - sped past, nearly hitting them.

The victim's friend shouted at the car and the car suddenly stopped. A man got out of the passenger's side of the car and approached the victim and his friend and started arguing with them.

Suddenly, without warning, the man punched the victim full in the face before calmly returning to the car and being driven away.

As a result of this punch the victim fell backwards into a wall and although he did not suffer any serious injuries, he has been left with soreness to his jaw.

The man who punched the victim is described as being white, with short brown hair and as wearing a black jacket and jeans. He is also described as having a visible tattoo on the left side of his neck that continued under his jacket.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact PC 2741 Paul Brittain in Telford on 101 or 0300 333 3000, quoting incident number 295S 240113.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you'd rather leave information without identifying yourself.
