Shrewsbury Sixth Form is county leader in a level league tables
Shrewsbury Sixth Form College is celebrating after it was revealed as a top Shropshire performer in new A Level statistics published by the government last week.

According to the Department for Education’s 2011/12 school and college performance tables for key stage 4 and key stage 5, Shrewsbury Sixth Form College consolidated its position as the top state-sector provider of A Levels in the county.
An analysis of the figures shows that the College is top of the table in terms of the point score per A Level, and the average point score per student. In addition, the tables showed that 95% of its A level students achieved 3 or more A levels compared to the national average of 52%, while 100% of A Level students achieved 2 A Levels or more against the national average of 61%.
Martin Ward, Principal of Shrewsbury Sixth Form, commented: “Not only are we the largest provider of A Levels in Shropshire, but the league tables confirm that we are doing a really excellent job for our students. It is really pleasing to see that our successful track record, built on years of experience of supporting students through A Levels, is continuing, and it is important that the families that we serve can receive this reassurance.
“This year, the tables included a new indicator which showed the percentage of students achieving three A Levels at grades AAB in facilitating subjects such as English Literature, Maths, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. These are the A Level subjects which are most quoted by the Russell Group of universities as required for entry to their degree courses. Whilst there is some disagreement about the value of this indicator, it is pleasing to see that at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College the indicator is one of the best in the national dataset for sixth form colleges at 8%.”
