Telford & Wrekin Council catch up with recycling collections following snowfall

Telford & Wrekin Council and its its contractors TWS have been working hard to ensure that grey rubbish bins missed during the snow and ice last week have been emptied.

The recent snowfall and resulting icy side roads affected some rubbish and recycling collections with collection vehicles and crews unable to access some homes.

Some recycling collections (cardboard, glass, paper, plastics and tins) were also not collected last week.

Telford & Wrekin Council is asking for homes where no recycling collection took place, to take this recycling back in and put it out again on their next scheduled recycling collection day. Any extra recycling can be presented as long as this is separated and put into bags.

Green bin collections, which were suspended following snowfall to allow crews to concentrate on collecting grey bins, will resume as normal from Monday January 28.

Dave Hanley, environment and open space manager, said: “We have worked very hard to ensure that grey bins that we couldn’t collect because of the snow were collected as soon as possible and I am glad to say we have now done this.

“However it simply hasn’t been possible to collect recycling from some homes and we have little choice but to ask any resident affected to take this in and put out again at their next collection date.

“We thank people for their understanding and patience and hope that they will appreciate these have been exceptionally difficult conditions for the crews to cope with and that for most residents collections continued as normal.”
