A man was seriously injured this morning after the car he was driving went through a wooden electricity pylon in Shropshire.

Driver injured after car goes through electricity pylon

The crash happened on the A4169 Much Wenlock to Telford road at about 7.45am this morning about a mile from the Rockhouse Pub on the Much Wenlock side.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When crews arrived they found a car that was about 15 feet down an embankment in a ditch. Nearby, an electricity pylon had been badly damaged with a section of the pole in the ditch near the car. Thankfully, the wire had not broken or come down.

“The driver of the car was initially trapped and semi-conscious. However, as he was treated while being extracted, he came round.

“Due to his position in the car, ambulance staff were concerned about the potential for neck and back injuries. He also had a head injury.

“After being immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board, he was airlifted to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital fully conscious."

The road has been closed while the state and safety of the pylon is been fully assessed.
