Arrests made of suspicion of attempted burglary in Tasley, Bridgnorth
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary after police were called to reports of a prowler at a home in a village near Bridgnorth.
Officers were called to Tasley just after 4am this morning following reports the homeowner had seen a man walking around their property.
On arrival, police found a green Toyota Yaris insecure and with the keys still inside a short distance from the property.
The same vehicle had been stop-checked earlier that same night by officers, who were out on patrol in response to a series of shed break ins around the Bridgnorth area.
Suspecting the car may have been used in a crime, recovery was arranged and a search carried out for the occupants in the surrounding area.
Two men were arrested in a nearby field on suspicion of attempted burglary shortly after 6am. One is from the Stoke On Trent area and the other from the Market Drayton area.
One of the men was also arrested on suspicion of threats to commit criminal damage in relation to the truck that arrived to recover the Toyota.
Both remain in police custody and will be interviewed in due course.
Inspector Rob Thomas, in charge of policing in South Shropshire and Bridgnorth, urged people to ensure any property stored in sheds or outbuildings was securely locked up and property marked.
"Our officers have been out on patrol as part of our Citadel initiative, following a spate of night-time outbuilding and shed burglaries in the Bridgnorth area," he said.
"Both police Safer Neighbourhood officers and Shropshire Council's community action officers are happy to help with advice on securing your property and making things much more difficult for burglars and thieves.
"Alteratively, security advice can be found under the Advice Centre on our website at http://www.westmercia.police.uk/."
Inspector Thomas also urged people to sign up to West Mercia's new DotMailer email alerts system, which sends emails about crimes and suspicious activity in your local area. Registration is on the force website.
