A man has threatened staff with a knife at a Shrewsbury store before fleeing with around £150 last night.

Man threatens Shrewsbury store staff with knife during robbery

The robber entered Robson's Liquor Zone on Whitchurch Road at around 7.45pm last night. He approached one of the shop assistants, demanded money and then grabbed her jumper.

She broke free and he forced open the till to snatch the takings. No-one was hurt.

Detective Sergeant Simon Morris, the investigating officer, said: "We believe the man was on a bike and arrived at the store from the direction of Tesco's and Harlescott crossroads. When he left, he rode off in the same direction towards Tesco's.

"It's possible he may have been outside the store for some minutes waiting for an opportunity to enter when there were no customers around. We are anxious to hear from anyone who spotted a man on a bike from around 7.15pm to 8pm.

"I would also appeal to anyone who visited the shop from around 7.15pm before the robbery to please contact the police. The number to call is Shrewsbury police station on 101."

The robber is described as white, about 5ft 10ins tall and slight to average build. He was wearing a dark hooded jacket with the hood tied round his face, dark tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

Det Sgt Morris added: "We really are anxious that people contact us with any information which may be connected to this crime. We are continuing to check CCTV footage in the area which might also help identify potential witnesses."

Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers charity by dialling 0800 555 111.
