A campaign calling for a speed camera and traffic calming measures on Haybridge Road in Hadley following the death of a child has received the backing of Wrekin MP, Mark Pritchard.

Haybridge Road safety campaign receives wide-backing

Haybridge Road resident Charlotte Delo, launched the campaign following the death of 9-year-old Jayden McIvor, of Hurleybrook Way on Saturday 2 February.

Jayden was in collision with a vehicle whilst using a pedestrian crossing. A 19-year-old man was arrested at the scene and subsequently released on police bail until 10 April pending further inquiries.

Ms Delo said: “I launched the facbook page following the fatal collision. It has brought the community together with over 2,000 messages supporting the need for traffic calming measures like speed cameras, speed bump, more lights or anything that will help slow down traffic and provide safety for pedestrians crossing the busy road.

“I have lived on Haybridge Road for many years and personally witnessed the speeding that has gone on, sadly it has now resulted in the death of a child even though the child used the lights. There are many young children that use this road to get to school something needs to be done before this happens again”.
