Police are seeking a man who attempted to rob an Oswestry shop while brandishing a knife.

Police seek Knifeman following attempted shop robbery in Oswestry

The man was holding a knife when he entered the Ezee shop in Willow Street at around 7.40pm on Saturday. He poked the till with the weapon while demanding money.

But when the shopkeeper shouted in response, the intruder fled, turning right and walking up Willow Street before turning right again into Castle Street.

No-one was hurt and nothing was stolen.

Detective Sergeant Mat Crisp said: “The man was only in the shop for a matter of seconds and there were no customers present at the time.

“However, it’s likely he will have been seen either just beforehand outside the premises or immediately after as he made his escape. I would urge anyone who may have spotted him at around 7.30pm to 8pm on Saturday, to call Oswestry police station on 101.”

DS Crisp said the offender had a hood up and a scarf concealed much of his face.

He was aged about 25 to 30, white skinned, nearly six feet tall, of slim build with a blotchy complexion and appeared to have fairly short dyed blond hair.

The man was wearing a dark green fleeced hooded top, a scarf of similar material, white trainers and thick black gloves.

Information concerning his possible identity can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111, for which a reward may be paid.
