Police officers in Telford are investigating after an attempted robbery in Dawley at the weekend.

Woman left shaken following attempted robbery in Dawley

The incident occurred close to Captain Webb Drive on Sunday. At just after 6pm, as the intended victim – a 42-year-old woman – walked across the Terrace Lodge car park with her 69-year-old mother and 3-year-old daughter, she saw two unknown men walking towards her.

As the men walked past, without warning, one of them tried to grab the victim’s handbag off her shoulder.

The victim was pulled to the ground by the men and as she fell the strap on her handbag snapped. However, she managed to keep hold of her bag and the two men were forced to flee the scene in the direction of Attwood Terrace without managing to steal anything.

A police spokesman said:

“Although the victim did not suffer any injuries as result of this incident she has been left very shaken by it, as have her mother and daughter.

“The two men that approached the victim are described as being white and aged between 16 and 20. They are both described as wearing hooded tops with the hoods up, with one being blue in colour and the other black.

“Officers investigating this incident are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed it, or anyone who believes they may know the identity of either of the men involved.

“Anyone who believes they may have information about this incident is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 or 0300 333 3000, quoting incident number 122N 100313.

“Alternatively, Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
