Police in Wem have appealed for witnesses after more than £3,000 worth of damage was caused to a car when someone jumped on and ran across the roof of a car in the middle of the night.

Car damaged to the value of £3,300 during act of vandalism in Wem

Police Constable Sharon Phillips, who is investigating the incident, said somebody in Wem is likely to know who was responsible for vandalising the silver Mercedes C200.

It had been parked near the Conservative Club in Noble Street between about 6pm on Friday 1st and 8am on Saturday 2nd March.

“Somebody has jumped onto the car and run across the roof during the night, causing significant dents, scratches and footprints on the bodywork,” said PC Phillips.

“Repairing the vehicle is likely to cost the victim upwards of £3,300 and I am keen to hear from anyone who might have seen this happen or knows who was responsible.

“Wem is not a large town and I strongly believe that somebody knows who did this. If you were with whoever carried this out that night or may have heard somebody bragging about it since, please contact me at Wem Police Station on 101.

“If you know something but do not want to be identified, you can let us know via the independent and anonymous charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where a reward is sometimes offered.”

House to house enquiries have already been carried out in the area.
