St Julian’s Friars in Shrewsbury will be closed to traffic at its junction with Wyle Cop from today as part of an on-going experimental traffic scheme.

St Julian’s Friars closes as part of trial

From today, all vehicle access to St Julian’s Friars residential properties and businesses will be gained from Williams Way, the new road off Town Walls next to the BT building.

This closure is part of an on-going experimental traffic scheme, where the direction of one-way traffic flow on Williams Way and St Julian’s Crescent is in an anti-clockwise direction from Town Walls to the junction at English Bridge.

A decision is due to be made by Shropshire Council over the permanent direction of flow in summer 2013, and after this time further details of the proposed St Julian’s Friars Enhancement Scheme will be announced.

From today bollards will be placed at the end of St Julian’s Friars, and clear signs will be provided to direct drivers to the new route.
