A man in his early 20s remains in a critical condition today after a car he was in left the road and collided with a cluster of trees in Telford at the weekend.

The collision occurred between the Leegomery roundabout and the Hadley Park roundabout at around 1.20am on Saturday morning.

The white Renault Clio was travelling towards the Hadley Park roundabout when it left the road.

Two West Mercia police officers from Shrewsbury reportedly found the car on fire with the male passenger inside, two others had left the vehicle.

Despite the fact that the car was on fire, the officers managed to cut his seatbelt and drag the man from the wreckage to a safe distance before the car was totally engulfed in flames. He suffered serious head injuries.

PC Paul Bosley from the Force Operations Support Team in Shrewsbury is appealing for witnesses to the collision or for anyone who may have seen the white Renault Clio travelling along the A442 prior to the moment it left the road.

Anyone who believes they may have information about this RTC is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 or 0300 333 3000, quoting incident number 25N 160313.
