Telford & Wrekin Council’s ongoing project to improve street lighting and reduce street light energy consumption around the borough will shortly benefit Burford, Bridgwood and Bembridge in Brookside.

Brookside street lighting gets an upgrade

During the improvements, which begin today, the existing columns and lanterns will be upgraded.

These upgrades will provide a better quality of light at a lower cost and will begin to introduce consistency in the standard and quality of lighting across Brookside.

The work complements the major regeneration currently taking place in Brookside and the lighting across both projects will be the same specification. In addition the latest work in Burford, Bridgwood and Bembridge will complete the column replacement programme for Brookside.

Across the Borough a total of £1.3 million is being invested in energy saving equipment over four years, and as part of the project all the lighting on Brookside Avenue has recently been upgraded.

Councillor Shaun Davies, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services and Co-operative Council, said: “It’s important that we work hard as a borough to reduce our energy consumption and being able to install better lighting that will save money and be better for our environment is a really positive step.

“I’m really pleased that this work is complementing all the regeneration that is currently going on in Brookside and it is showing an even greater investment in the local area.”

Brookside has been identified as a pilot ward for regeneration by Telford & Wrekin Council, which has committed a £6m budget to be spent on the estate. This is additional to the budget for these street lighting upgrades.
