A man is in hospital in a serious but stable condition following an assault in Telford last night.

Man seriously injured during assault in Oakengates

The man in his early 60s was involved in dispute with a group of people in the car park of the Oakengates Theatre at around 9.30pm last night.

He was assaulted by a number of them and received serious facial and internal injuries.

Following surgery, he remains in the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Police officers have arrested two people – a man in his 20s and a youth in his late teens – who are currently in custody at Malinsgate Police Station.

Detective Sergeant Richard Roberts of Telford CID said: “This was a very nasty assault. While we have two people in custody, there were a number of others in the group at the scene who we have yet to identify. We need to trace them as soon as possible so we can determine what involvement they had in the incident.

“If anyone knows anything of this assault, those involved or who saw any suspicious activity in or around the centre of Oakengates, please contact West Mercia Police straight away.”

DS Roberts can be contacted at Telford CID via the non-emergency number 101 or information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111. Please quote the reference number 666s 29/03/13.
