Detectives in Shrewsbury have appealed for information after a man was assaulted following a night out.

Witness appeal following assault by group of men in Shrewsbury

The victim had left The Vaults pub in Castle Gates at about 12.30am on Monday.

He was assaulted shortly afterwards by a group of up to six or seven other men on Castle Street or Ditherington Road, somewhere between the railway station and the Spring Gardens area.

He has little memory of what happened or exactly where he was attacked. He was treated in hospital later that morning for head injuries that left him unable to see in one eye, although it is expected that his sight will return.

Detective Constable Sarah Smither, who is investigating the attack, appealed for anyone who might have seen the assault or a group of men in the Castle Gates or Ditherington area during the early hours of that morning to get in touch on 101.

She is also keen to hear from anyone who might have seen the victim after he left The Vaults in Castle Gates at about 12.30am.

He is white, in his early 20s and of average build. He was wearing blue jeans, a white striped T-shirt and a blue hooded jacket.

Information can also be passed on anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where a reward is sometimes offered.
