On Saturday Shrewsbury will be filled with over 40 different musical performers ‘busking’ in tribute to Ben Bebbington on what would have been his 44th birthday.

Big Busk event to pay tribute to Ben Bebbington this Saturday

Ben’s mum Tricia Nicholson explained what the day would mean to her, she said: “The horrific way in which my son lost his life every parent’s worst nightmare and my heart is broken but as his birthday approaches with the overwhelming support from friends, musicians and even complete strangers I am able to celebrate his life and love of music.

"The Shrewsbury Ark was a place that meant a great deal to Ben and he formed many friendships there. I know that he would be genuinely delighted that if any good could come of this tragedy that the Ark and his friends there would benefit.

"I cannot thank everyone enough for their kindness and generosity of spirit.”

The whole family hope that as many people as possible will come into the town to enjoy a day of music whilst enjoying the beautiful town and all its fantastic places to shop and dine.

One of the acts performing are ‘The Caves’ Becki a member of the group explained why they had wanted to be involved in the event she said: “We had the pleasure of meeting Ben one evening, busking by Coleham bridge a few years back. We spent hours playing music and jamming into the night. It was an evening that we would never forget and we were extremely saddened by his death. This is why we felt we needed to take part in The Big Busk and feel honoured to be part of such a wonderful day to remember a warm hearted and unforgettable gentleman”

The day will start at 10 am on Pride Hill and music will be performed constantly until 4pm when the event moves to The Coffee House with tunes from Jim Hawkins, BBC Radio Shropshire presenter before moving into the evening at various venues.
