Scheme to address on street parking in Dawley
Telford & Wrekin Council has installed a number of planters and bollards in Dawley High Street in conjunction with Great Dawley Parish Council.

The aim is to address concerns about illegal on street parking, which had also been causing damage to paving and subsequent ongoing maintenance costs.
The High Street’s original regeneration design had sought to encourage an open feel to the High Street with a narrow carriageway, 20mph speed limit and wide pavement.
However, drivers had continued to park illegally on the pavement causing danger and obstruction to pedestrians and shoppers.
Following discussions with Great Dawley Parish Council, local businesses and residents, planters and bollards were installed in the High Street to help address the problems. There will still be sufficient pavement width to allow safe movement by pedestrians.
Councillor Shaun Davies, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services and Co-operative Council, said: “We have worked co-operatively and in partnership with Great Dawley Parish Council to devise a solution to the traffic problems in the High Street in Dawley.
“We feel we have come up with an imaginative and cost-effective solution to address people’s concerns and I would like to thank the parish council for their support in this”
Councillor Fran Bould, of Great Dawley Parish Council and Telford & Wrekin Council ward member, said: “This scheme will further enhance the High Street and make for an even more pleasant environment to work and shop in and as local people we all need to play our part in ensuring they are looked after.”
The planters will be maintained on a daily basis by Great Dawley Parish Council’s and Telford and Wrekin’s Parish Environmental Teams and the plants will be replaced by Telford & Wrekin Council to give seasonal variations throughout the year.
The first set of planters was installed by apprentices from across the Borough as part of their NVQ qualification.
