A 19-year-old man remains in hospital after suffering serious head injuries as a result of an incident that occurred in the early hours on Monday 1 April.

The incident occurred in a car park on Lion Street in Oakengates – not far from the Claddagh pub where the man had been drinking with his brother.

At around 12.45am, a short time after leaving the pub, the 19-year-old man and his 21-year-old brother became involved in a physical altercation with two other men.

Initially it appeared that neither of the brothers had suffered significant injuries as a result of this incident but then, the following day, police received a call stating the 19-year-old man had been rushed to hospital with a serious head injury.

The man remains in hospital in Stoke at the present time in a stable condition after undergoing surgery to repair the injury he suffered.

Two 19-year-old men have been arrested in connection with this incident and they have since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

A police spokesman said:

“Although two men have been arrested in connection with this incident, investigating officers remain very keen to speak to anyone who witnessed it.

“They are also keen to speak to anyone who was drinking in the Claddagh public house earlier in the evening who may have seen anything that could be linked to the incident that occurred later.

“Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact PC 3186 Becky Bradford in CID at Malinsgate Police Station on 101 or 0300 333 3000, quoting incident number 28S 010413.

“Alternatively, pleased remember that Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you’d rather pass on information without identifying your self.”
