Arriva bus fares in Shropshire are set to rise by up to 20p from this Sunday.

Arriva to increase Shropshire bus fares

Those who use Arriva services in Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Telford and Bridgnorth will see prices rise by 5, 10 or 20p on some routes.

The National Express Travelcard Supplement fare will be increased from 50p to 80p.

In Shrewsbury, a new ‘short-hop’ fare will see some previously priced at £1.80 reduced to £1.60. An Adult Local Day Saver increases from £4.00 to £4.20.

Arriva Midlands say they have worked hard to ensure that the overall increase in fares is kept as low as possible but blames inflation for the price rises.

The company’s Managing Director, Alex Perry explained said:

"No one likes to increase their prices especially at such a difficult time but, as everyone knows from their domestic bills, costs are steadily rising. The latest retail price index showed that inflation is currently running at 3.2%. But we’ve worked hard behind the scenes to ensure that the overall increase in our fares will be kept as low as possible."
