The robbery happened between 4pm and 4.30pm on Monday when the victim was left lying in the road.

Police today issued an appeal for any information which might help identify the offender and trace the vehicle.

Detective Constable Sam Salt, the investigating officer, said: “The elderly gentleman was returning to his parked car in Albrighton High Street when he was approached by a man who said his vehicle had broken down and his wife was still in it.

“He asked for a lift and then got into the passenger’s seat. The driver took him a mile or so to Harriotts Hayes Lane in Albrighton where the man produced a knife and told him to get out.

“The man then dragged him out of the vehicle got into the driver’s seat and made off towards Codsall.”

She said the police were still trying to trace the white Ford Fiesta, registration number DL10VUW, and appealed for sightings during the incident in the High Street or Harriotts Hayes Lane, or for information concerning its current whereabouts.

“I am urging anyone with any information, however insignificant it may seem, which might help identify the robber or establish the whereabouts of the Fiesta, to contact me at Bridgnorth police station by calling 101 or 0300 333 3000”.

DC Salt added: “This was a frightening experience which left the elderly victim shaken and bruised. Fortunately, he did not require hospital treatment.”

The man is described as white, in his early to mid twenties and of slim build.

Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
