Shropshire warmth scheme celebrates £8m milestone
Following on from a cold start to spring, a warmth scheme which supports vulnerable people in Shropshire, is celebrating after hitting a major milestone.
In the 13 years since its launch, npower’s Health Through Warmth scheme has contributed over £8m towards the cost of heating measures for vulnerable homeowners whose health is affected by cold living conditions.
The npower Health Through Warmth Crisis Fund is used alongside charity and client contributions, to help Shropshire residents who have a low income, little or no savings, and are unable to fund the heating work needed.
Elaine Midwinter, npower Health Through Warmth scheme manager, comments: “It’s great that we have been able to make such a commitment to improving the levels of warmth and comfort for thousands of people across England and Wales.
“In a month where temperatures were at an all-time-low for the time of year, the existence of schemes such as Health Through Warmth has never been more important. As residents use their heating systems for extended periods of time, old boilers may be more prone to falter or break down completely.
“This is where Health Through Warmth may be able to assist, as we can help repair or replace broken heating systems for vulnerable people who meet our scheme criteria. With the UK’s unpredictable weather, we’re anticipating that referrals will continue over the coming months.”
In addition to contributing more than £8million from the unique npower Health Through Warmth Crisis Fund, the scheme has also secured £1.7million of charitable funds and managed more than 79,000 referrals.
