An appeal for witnesses is being made by police officers in Telford after a man was assaulted in Wellington last night.

Man assaulted whilst walking in Wellington

The assault took place on the footpath between Sutherland Road and Whitchurch Drive at around 7.30pm.

The 48-year-old victim was walking along the footpath when two men approached him and intimidated him by starting to push him.

One of the men suddenly pushed the victim to the floor and he was then kicked a number of times while on the ground before the two men quickly made off from the scene on foot.

After the two men ran off the victim got to his feet and made his way to Wrekin College where he sought help from staff and pupils.

A police spokesman said:

“As a result of this incident the victim suffered a laceration to the upper eye lid of his right eye, an abrasion to his right wrist and a possible fracture to his left eye socket.

“Although very shaken by this assault, the victim has described the men that attacked him as appearing to be of Asian origin and as being of average height and average build.

“Officers investigating this incident would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed it, or anyone who may have seen the two offenders running away from the scene.

“Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police on 101 or 0300 333 3000, quoting incident number 609S 230413.

“Alternatively, pleased remember that Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you’d rather pass on information without identifying yourself.”
