A man was arrested in a village near Oswestry today following reports that a firearm had been discharged in the open.

Arrest made following firearms incident in Trefonen

Officers were called to Trefonen at around 7.35am after a report was received that a man had discharged a shotgun several times in the open in a rural location.

A police operation secured the scene and a man believed to be in his forties was arrested at 9.35am. No-one was injured.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “The incident was in a very rural area. The man was quickly traced and arrested after coming out of a building. He was compliant and was detained without issue.

“He has been taken into custody on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.”

Police are continuing their inquiries at the location.
