Telford primary school appeal for governors following successful Ofsted

A Telford and Wrekin primary school is looking to recruit two community governors following a successful Ofsted report.

Holmer Lake Primary School in Brookside was rated as good by government inspectors – an improvement on the satisfactory rating of the previous inspection.

The school is now looking for two governors who have a particular interest and relevant experience in financial management, health and safety, recruitment and human resources.

The Ofsted inspection took place on February 13 and 14 and the inspectors observed 20 lessons.

The report said: “Most pupils…make good gains in their speaking, writing and number skills. They learn how to work together, share and take turns.

“Work in pupils’ books is of a good and often better standard. Pupils take a pride in their work and their books are a credit to both them and their teachers.

“Pupils move into Key Stage 1 with the skills they need to learn well. They make good progress in all aspects of their work, particularly reading.”

The report also praises the standard of teaching and leadership at the school.

“Across the school, teaching typically gives a brisk pace to learning and questioning is sharp. Work is carefully planned to meet the needs of all groups of pupils,” it adds.

“The headteacher is an inspirational leader, who is ably supported by her deputy. They compare the school to the highest levels attained nationally and are actively taking steps for the school to become outstanding.”

Head teacher Sian Deane said: “I am obviously delighted that we have improved our rating with this latest report but we are committed to further improvement and hoped to achieve an outstanding rating in the future.”

Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “I would like to congratulate the staff, parents, children and governors on their fantastic achievement in improving their rating. I know an awful lot of hard work has gone into this achievement.”
