The Malinslee and Dawley Job Junction officially launched in Telford yesterday, marking the opportunity for local people to attend drop-in sessions to help them find employment and access other services.

New Job Junction Launches in Telford

The Job Junction, which is based at Dawley Social Club in King Street, opened its doors in mid-March and has been welcoming local people who need assistance in searching for a job, help creating a quality CV or attending workshops for interview skills or just to seek advice from staff.

Malinslee and Dawley Job Junction is a drop-in service open each Tuesday between 9.30am and 11.30am in the George Chetwood Room at Dawley Social Club. There is no need to book a place, so people can turn up on the day and find out first hand how the service can help.

The aim is to raise the confidence and skills of unemployed people and in turn help them feel comfortable applying for jobs, attending interviews and successfully securing a job.

Since the Job Junction opened it has been proving very popular with local residents. In just six weeks since it opened almost 60 people have dropped in to get help and advice.

There has also been great interest in the courses that are taking place at Job Junction too. There are currently 16 participants on the Food Safety & Catering Level 2, and 12 participants on the Emergency First Aid at Work courses.

As well as running more of these courses, other courses will soon be available including a Computing, Internet and Email course.

Councillor Shaun Davies, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services & Co-operative Council, said: “The Malinslee and Dawley Job Junction is another example of our co-operative working.

“This is a joint venture between Telford & Wrekin Council, the GMB union, Great Dawley Parish Council, TCAT, Jobcentre Plus and Dawley Social Club.

“It is essential that we put initiatives such as Job Junctions in place so unemployed residents can get the help they need to successfully find work. Being able to work in partnership with a number of organisations means we can offer a better level of advice and guidance to ensure residents get the specific support they need.

“I am really pleased with how successful the Job Junction is proving already in Malinslee and Dawley and I hope many more people take up the opportunity to drop-in soon”

Anyone interested in attending the Job Junction can just drop in on the day, or call Mandy Jenkins at Telford & Wrekin Council on 01952 382181.
