A Telford and Wrekin primary school and nursery is celebrating receiving a glowing report after a recent Ofsted inspection.

William Reynolds Primary School and Nursery in Woodside has marked their success by having each child planting a tree in the school grounds.

The school was rated “good” overall with a judgement of “outstanding” for the behaviour and safety of pupils as well as for leadership and management.

This was the school’s first Ofsted inspection since the site’s infant and junior schools merged in September 2010.

The school has 380 pupils aged three to 11. Inspectors visited 26 lessons and spoke to children and parents.

Head teacher Irene Baxter said: “We are delighted that Ofsted has recognised that the children’s behaviour is outstanding and that they make outstanding progress as they progress through school.”

The report praised the school’s leadership team, stating: “The determined leadership of the headteacher, other school leaders and the governing body has successfully improved teaching, so that pupils make good and often outstanding progress.”

John James, William Reynolds’ chair of governors, said: “The governors are really pleased at the way in which the head teacher Irene Baxter and leadership team have worked hard to bring the two schools together over the past 18 months.

“This is a good school and the strong teamwork demonstrates the excellent capacity for us to continue to improve.”

It adds: “Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is promoted very well.

“The school provides pupils with a very strong moral and social framework and promotes their understanding of cultural diversity.”

Councillor Paul Watling, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “This has been a fantastic effort by everyone connected with the school and it is great to see their hard work resulting in continuing improvement. Well done to everyone involved.”
