Telford MP makes army unit identity plea
Telford MP David Wright is writing to the Secretary of State for Defence after it emerged that the Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry B Sqaudron - also known as The Shropshire Yeomanry - unit of the Territorial Army is being considered for merger.

Mr Wright’s intervention comes after he received a number of enquiries from people suggesting that the Government is considering removing the Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry badge from any merged unit.
David Wright MP said: “The local Territorial Army (TA) unit is based at Dawley Bank in Telford. The unit is very active in the community and they support and recruit at a wide range of local community events and civic functions. This work sits alongside their valuable military contribution to our nation.
“It is extremely important that we retain a TA unit in Telford with a strong connection to the community and that we keep their cap badges and identity. The the Royal Mercian and Lancastrian Yeomanry has an excellent recruitment record when compared with other parts of the TA. As the TA becomes more important in the structure of our armed forces it is essential that we build up local and regional identity, not diminish it.”
